Park News

The Park District recently settled long standing litigation with the Village of Bensenville over attorney fees in connection with the de-annexation of White Pines Golf Course from its’ jurisdictional authority. The agreement calls for a cooperative effort by both agencies to work together to help solve stormwater detention and flooding problems within the Village.

The contentious litigation issues date back to 2003 when the Park District opposed restrictive liquor licensing at White Pines Golf Course and the imposition of an Amusement Tax on golfers. “At the time the Park District viewed the restrictions as an overtly aggressive act by Village administration to exert control over a separate unit of local government and impose a tax on golfers that was not authorized by State Statutes”, says John Wassinger, current Park Board Vice President. “With the new Village administration we were able to open lines of communication to resolve those long standing differences and work collectively for our community”, added Wassinger.

The Park District and the Village are exploring the creation of a stormwater detention site at Veterans Park on Church Road and Main Street. Engineering studies indicate a detention area of about one half acre in size, four feet deep will provide significant relief from flooding in heavy rains.
